Itself a literary work, the world of Lovecraft is based on books, and not on the least of them: grimoires such as “De Vermiis Mysteris”, “Unausprechlichen Kulten”, or “Nécronomicon” by mad Arab Abdul Alhazred, the most famous. All these books have been invented but the style of the stories is such that passionate readers are led to the books in libraries.
Fake Necronomicons have even be published. The publishing firm «J’ai lu» published a Necronomicon in its esoteric collection «L’Aventure Mystérieuse» without ever specifying that it was an American literary gag from 1978. Enough to foster even more confusion about the author…
